A DZW reader informed us that Zach Woods’ Instagram profile lists him having 1 million followers:

This comes after his latest IG reel took aim at Ed Sheeran, the “tolerated” musician who succumbed to pressure from promoters of his tour after he dropped Macklemore from his act. Macklemore had made comments on stage during a recent performance in support of Palestinians, who are facing a ruthless genocide. More than 75,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023, per independently verified data.

Ed Sheeran explained his decision to drop Macklemore from the tour in a six-slide notes-screenshot post with comments disabled. The post directly before it wasn’t locked, though, and Instagram users have flooded it with grievances against Sheeran ever since. Zach was among them, commenting “Yuck” on the unlocked post. He followed it up by publishing a reel targeting “internationally tolerated acoustic guitarist” Sheeran for his apolitical stance and lack of support for friend and fellow musician Macklemore.

“If your whole appeal is being inoffensive, it is profoundly unwise to do something this offensive,” Zach said in the reel.

Unsurprisingly, Zach has proven he has a dialed-in audience that pays attention to politics, culture, and world events, who appreciate his tongue-in-cheek commentary that serves as a filter for his own progressivism. The comments are also fairly resonant due to Zach himself being Jewish.

Ed Sheeran has since lost multiple tour partners who dropped from the tour in support of Macklemore, including Finneas, Aaron Rowe, and Beoga.

While the commentary on Sheeran and Macklemore was the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of reaching 1 million followers, Zach has been poised to hit the milestone since early September. Hitting 1 million followers is also evidence of his successful partnership with Block Party, a digital agency that was shortlisted for a Webby Award for their work on Zach’s social media account.
